Purpose

As part of Humber NHS Foundation Trust’s approach to delivering patient-centric care, Village Software were engaged to advise and deliver a Business Intelligence and analytics solution to improve data management and reporting.

What Humber NHS Foundation Trust wanted to improve:

  • Departmental patient treatment activity
  • Patient treatment plans and journeys
  • Treatment effectiveness
  • Treatment outcomes
  • Service cost reporting and analysis

What we did:

Humber NHS Foundation Trust had Power BI – a unified, scalable platform for self-service and enterprise business intelligence (BI). However, they wanted to assess Tableau as an alternative.

Village Software did a demonstration of both platforms so the client could assess which would be best for their requirements. They decided on Power BI as it would be more cost effective for them, plus they already had good Microsoft skills internally.

Village Software advised on the most suitable licensing model then provided PowerBi licences for an agreed number of named users.

 

To enable the deployment of PowerBi Village Software created a unique Azure tenancy for the Trust. We implemented the Azure gateway by working with the Trust’s IT dept, enabling Village consultants to access the Trust’s on-premise data as required to meet the reporting and analytics requirement.

Village worked with the Trust’s information department to ascertain the scope of the Business Intelligence and data requirement. Once agreed, Village then designed and built the data management layer within Microsoft PowerBI to enable the delivery of the chosen analytics. This involved designing and building a suite of dashboards and reports for a wide audience of users within the Trust, including information and IT, business managers and clinicians.

All data and BI requirements were delivered on time and within budget and were very well received by a hierarchy of users within the Trust. Subsequently, the Trust has increased its number of users to utilise the outputs from the PowerBi deployment, and this number continues to increase.

  • Better quality analytics
  • An increased number of users are now able to contribute and consume the patient-centric data, from 10 people to over 100, currently – a mix of clinicians, information leads & business managers
  • More users are now able to self-serve within PowerBI
